.650 Bore Diameter, 19.375" barrel, S/N 2. An extraordinary piece of maritime history and a towering mechanical marvel from the golden age of deep-sea whaling is this original English Greener Percussion Swivel Whaling Gun. Invented in 1837 by the celebrated Birmingham master gunsmith William Greener, this iconic weapon revolutionized the international whaling industry by shifting the dangerous art of harpoon striking from hand-thrown distances to a devastatingly accurate, boat-mounted cannon system. Iron barrel and frame. Brass triggerguard.  British proofs on the left side of the frame. Side mounts for mounting on a yoke. Walnut stock with a rubber recoil pad. The metal with nice smooth surfaces, mostly a dark plum look. The triggerguard with nice dark patina.  Comes with one the original harpoon. Overall excellent.
