Dating to the Golden Age of Sail, this compact cannon represents a critical piece of maritime history. Rather than serving as an offensive weapon, cannons of this specific scale were carried aboard both naval warships and commercial merchant vessels for vital ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship communication. Stationed primarily along a vessel's wooden rail or near ports, they were fired using blank black-powder charges to deliver powerful auditory and visual signals. These blasts were essential for announcing port arrivals, requesting customs clearances, warning off nearby vessels, and navigating blind through dense coastal fog. Overall very good condition with an untouched patina with the bronze nicely aged . The yoke  is complete and show signs of use near water.  In original condition.
