12 MM caliber, 6.25" octagonal to round barrel, S/N 1198. Manufactured in Liège, Belgium during the 1860s, this large-bore handgun is built on a system patented by Casimir and Eugène Lefaucheux. The 12mm military-sized pinfire is one of the first successful self-contained metallic cartridge handgun design adopted by national militaries. During the American Civil War, ordnance shortages led the Union and Confederate militaries to import thousands of these large-frame French and licensed Belgian variants. Blue finish that is lightly fading to a plum patina with some highlights of blue in the protected areas. The cylinder has some blue mixed with plum and the frame is mostly gray with some light staining. The grips are very good with some nicks and dings. Overall a very good Pinfire revolver.
