9mm pinfire caliber,  4.25" octagon to round barrel length, S/N 351 on both the magazine and bottom of the barrel. Patented by Pierre Joseph Jarre in 1859, the harmonica pistol was an innovative attempt at a repeating firearm. Though its massive, bulky frame made it too cumbersome to compete with the popular six-shot revolvers of the day, its forward-thinking design helped lay the groundwork for modern magazine-fed semi-automatics. Despite being a commercial failure in the 19th century, its extreme rarity has made it a highly sought-after prize for modern collectors today. The only markings are on the end cap of the magazine and bottom of the barrel that indicate matching serial numbers.  This pistol would have been finished in the typical high polished European blue. There are areas of bluing retained in the protected areas. Mostly a gray patina throughout.  Varnished walnut grips with some nicks and dings.  Front cone to bead sight. This is an excellent example of a period of design and evolution in the firearms industry.  While an oddity, this was innovative for future gun makers and designers.
