.31 caliber, 3.5" barrel length, S/N. 74. A rare example of early American firearms innovation, this 4-shot pepperbox pistol was designed and patented by George Leonard Jr., a former employee of the renowned Allen & Thurber firm. Produced in highly limited for just about a year, before production moved to Robbins & Lawrence. It is estimated that fewer than 200 total units were ever manufactured in Charlestown, making it a rare collectible firearm. "G. Leonard" marked on one of the ribs. Blue barrels with engraved frame and ring trigger. Walnut grips. The barrel retains some of the blue finish. The frame with nice engraving and a very nice even patina. Excellent overall. The barrels have to be unscrewed to cap the percussion nipples.
