.31 caliber, 7.5" Octagonal to round barrel, NSN. Known as a buggy rifle or pocket rifle, these rifles were designed to be compact enough to carry in a coat pocket or under a carriage seat, but capable of rifle accuracy once the steel wire stock was slipped into place. Often associated with famous New England and New York makers like D.H. Hilliard, William Billinghurst, or Allen & Wheelock.   Constructed of steel with rosewood grips. The rear sight is extended with a peep hole. Hood front sight with center post and bead on top. This comes complete with the wire steel stock.  The bottom of the backstrap with a hole for the wire stock. All metal is sharp and crisp with some light staining. The grips are very good.  A rare American percussion target pistol.
