.36 caliber, 4"round barrel length with grooved wood grips, NSN. A premier and highly sought-after example of 19th-century European combination engineering, manufactured under the 1840 patent of famed Parisian gunsmith Joseph-Célestin Dumonthier. Originally designed as a status symbol and hunting tool. It was famously favored by elite figures, including Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico. These types of weapons stand out for their integration of steel and blade. 14" spear point blade. Marked on the guard "1848" and on the other opposite side with proof marks. Iron guard with two hammers. The blade is mostly gray with some staining. All metal displays a nice even look. Comes with the original leather scabbard with a brass tip and brass throat. The leather scabbard has two tears one is through about 7" from the tip, The other tear is about 5" from the throat. Overall this is a very good example.
