.36 caliber, 28.5" barrels, NSN. Andrew Wurfflein was a German born gunmaker that immigrated to the U.S. in 1832 and settled in Philadelphia. By 1851 Wuffflein had his own shop that was located at 208 North Second Street. Well known for his plains style rifles, single shot rifles, target rifles and Derringer style pocket pistols; this specific rifle is a desirable mahogany cased double rifle. Brown barrels, with mounted rear notched sight and the front blade. A blank dovetail has been filled, more than likely done by Wurfflein near the breech. Gold lines inlay at the breech. Finely engraved case colored tang. Case colored breeches, case colored locks and hammers, engraved locks and hammers. The locks are marked "A. Wurfflein". Double triggers with one having a set. Finely engraved triggerguard and blue finish. The rear ramrod finial is engraved and finished in blue. A finely checkered and extra fancy highly figured walnut stock with a cheekpiece on the left side. A finely engraved silver two piece patchbox. The partioned case is lined in green. Leather covered trunk style case with brass corners. The partitions contain a flask and mold cavity. The barrels retain most of the brown finish and the locks and breech retain nearly all of the case colors. The triggerguard and front or rear ramrod ferule retains most of the high blue finish. The stock is excellent. This is a beautiful piece of Philadelphia gunmaking.
