.700 Bore diameter, 29.5" barrels with patent breech, NSN. The Flintlock Double-Barrel Shotgun by James Thomson of Edinburgh is a premier example of high-end Scottish gunmaking from the late 18th or very early 19th century. Operating during the golden age of flintlock technology, James Thomson was a respected master gunmaker based in Edinburgh, Scotland, known for producing sophisticated fowling pieces for the Scottish gentry and aristocracy. Double-barrel flintlocks from this era represent a peak in mechanical artistry, requiring immense skill to balance the weight of two barrels while ensuring both locks fired reliably without cross-igniting. Platinum blow out plugs with platinum lines inlaid at the breech. Platinum signature plates on the top of the barrels at the breech. Platinum lined pans. Beautiful engraved locks and hammers. Engraved breech plate. Engraved triggerguard. Birdseye maple stock, checkered wrist. The barrels retain most of the old refinished just lightly fading. Nice Damascus pattern. The locks with a very nice mottled gray to brown look with nice crisp lines and engraving. The bores are nice and smooth. The stock has some nicks and dings with a darkened look. Overall an excellent looking Double Flint Shotgun. 2.5" drop at the heel.
