.31 caliber, 2.75" octagonal barrel, S/N 643 The Massachusetts Arms Co. Maynard-Primed Pocket Percussion Revolver is a dedicated example to 1850s American firearm innovation. Produced in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, this firearm showcases patent-evasion designs. Following a patent infringement lawsuit won by Colt in 1851, the Massachusetts Arms Company was forced to redesign its product line to avoid Colt’s monopoly on automatically rotating cylinders. By integrating Dr. Edward Maynard’s famous automatic tape-primer system they found their workaround. "Mass Arms" markings on the top strap, marked on the cover "Manynards Patent".  Engraved on the cover. The barrel and catch  retain most of the bright original blue finish. The cylinder and frame have a nice soft gray patina with sharp and crisp edges. The rosewood grips are excellent.
