.22 caliber, 3.25" barrel, S/N 5058. Invented by William H. Elliot and produced from 1865 to 1888, the Remington Vest Pocket Pistol is one of the most recognizable concealable firearms of the post-Civil War era. This pistol features a split-breech mechanism. The hammer itself acts as the breech block.  Pulling the hammer back exposes the chamber for loading. When the trigger is squeezed the hammer drops to completely lock the breech against the cartridge.  Top of frame with Remington markings in two lines. Blue finish with varnished walnut grips. This little gem retains most of the bright original blue finish.  The hammer retains most of the bright  blue finish. The grips are excellent.
