44 Russian Caliber, 6" barrel length,  S/N 5601.  The Smith & Wesson 1st Model Double Action Top-Break Revolver, also known as the Double Action .44, is a foundational firearm in the evolution of American handguns. Produced between 1881 and 1913 with roughly 54,668 units manufactured, this handgun represents Smith & Wesson's first large-frame double-action revolver. It departed from the slower single-action frames of the Old West and embraced rapid-fire capability paired with automatic simultaneous cartridge ejection. It was predominantly chambered in the potent .44 S&W Russian cartridge highly favored for target shooting due to its exceptional accuracy. Nickel finish with blue top break down latch and blue triggerguard. Pearl grips.  This revolver is very good condition with most of the original nickel finish.  The grips are excellent. The triggerguard and top latch retain most of the high blue finish.  The hammer has some of the case colors. The bore is bright and shiny.  This is a very nice revolver.
