A classic example of 19th-century frontier culture, this Native American trade pipe tomahawk beautifully illustrates the historic convergence of European manufacturing and Indigenous tradition. Originally conceived during the fur trade era as a dual symbol of war and peace, the pipe tomahawk served both as a devastating close-quarters combat weapon and a sacred ceremonial smoking implement used during diplomatic treaty councils. Frst half 19th century iron trade pipe tomahawk, having a bulbous tobacco pipe bowl and 4 inch blade; overall 8.5 inches. Overall good condition with oxidation.
