An authentic, hand-forged Early American trade axe, dating from the late 18th to the early 19th century. Manufactured by early American blacksmiths or imported by trading companies during the Federal and Western expansion eras, these axes were a primary trade commodity exchanged with Native American tribes and utilized extensively by frontiersmen, longhunters, and early settlers moving into the Ohio River Valley and Mississippi River basins. Featuring a wrought crescent iron blade with wooden oak handle; 20.5 inches in length. Overall good condition.
