.50 caliber bore, 29" octagonal barrel with a turned muzzle, NSN. Crafted during the golden age of European custom gunmaking, this rifle is a great example of a classic Bavarian Jaeger rifle. Hand built by the master gunsmith Anton Kaufmann in Kelheim, it represents the height of mid-19th-century forestry weapons. Built short and robust for tracking red stag and wild boar through dense alpine thickets, yet engineered with the extreme precision of a formal target rifle. Rear tang sight with notched rear barrel sight and a blade front sight. Highly engraved tang around the breech, lockplate and hammer.  The hammer with a screw in the top of the cone.  Engraved silver mounts.  Highly carved finely figured walnut stock with cheek piece and finely checkered.  A hunter on the left side resting with a rabbit looking at him and a stag not far off in the distance. The stock beautifully carved and featuring a hunter resting on the right side.  Highly carved behind the tang and down on the wrist.  The barrel retains nearly all of the bright original brown finish. The lock and hammer maintain most of the case colors just a bit darkened.  This rifle is very sharp and crisp has with a mint look.  This is a outstanding rifle with beatiful carving and most of its orignal finish.
