Sharing a base design originally penned by Captain Washington Hood of the U.S. Topographical Engineers, this pattern served double-duty for both the Army's Medical Staff and the Pay Department.  30" spear point blade etch with military motifs. Side of the blade is etched "Pay Department".  Cast brass handle the same as a Medical sword of 1840.  Except on one shield it has the letters "PD".  Gilt brass scabbard with chase.  Overall this sword is excellent condition.  Some dents in the scabbard.
