.560 bore diameter, 7" Brass cannon style barrel smoothbore, NSN. A rare late-18th-century French maritime officer’s flintlock pistol by the celebrated gunsmith Cassaignard of Nantes. Specifically engineered for naval service, this pistol utilizes a heavy brass barrel and lock assembly designed to withstand the corrosive salt-air environment of life at sea. Brass cannon barrel with brass lockplate. The brass lockplate is marked "Caissaignard". A brass deep relief Grotesque butt cap. Brass beveled sideplate. Fancy high figured wood stock with highly relief carving behind the tang. Nice molding around the lockplate. Iron hammer, frizzen and frizzen spring. The brass has been polished at one time leaving a nice light patina. The stock has been re-varnished. Overall the pistol has an excellent look.
