.620 bore diameter, 8.5" barrel length, NSN. Offered here is an extraordinarily rare survivor of Highland history; a Pre-Culloden Scottish Flintlock Belt Pistol. Dating to the early-to-mid 18th century, this historic firearm is a premier representative of the armaments carried by Highland chieftains and Jacobite clansmen leading up to the fateful Battle of Culloden in 1746. Following the subsequent Disarming Acts, weapons of this pedigree were heavily confiscated and systematically destroyed by British Government forces, making any surviving, authentic example an exceptionally scarce artifact. The sound smoothbore barrel engraved with classic Scottish designs (wear). The lock finely engraved throughout with border and interweaving scroll work engraved with the owners name "DONALD CAMPBELL" possibly Donald Campbell of Scalpay who sheltered Bonnie Prince Charlie after the defeat. The swan neck cock is an old replacement. All steel flintlock beautifully engraved on spine and underside with Scottish designs . Ball trigger, ramshorn butt, and steel pricker. Vacant silver escutcheons. Belt hook on the left side of pistol. Though worn this a Scottish pistol that was very likely at Culloden and not one of the all too common Scottish revival dress examples.
