.45 caliber 5.5" barrel, S/N 1191. Colt U.S. Single Action Army Artillery Revolvers are altered revolvers from the Cavalry. The process of the alteration included shortening the barrels and disassembling all the firearms. During this process all parts were put into large parts bins. The parts were cleaned, inspected and then re-assembled without regard for matching the serial numbers. The barrel has single line address with a "P" on the bottom near the frame. There are no numbers on the barrel. The frame has "US" markings with two-line patent markings and serial number on the bottom of the frame. Blue barrel, cylinder, backstrap and triggerguard. Correct donut hole ejector head. Cylinder with "HN" inspectors initials. No numbers on the triggerguard nor the backstrap. One piece walnut grips with "RAC" cartouche on the right side. The barrel retains a lot of the arsenal blue finish. The ejector housing has some blue and shows wear on the outer side. The frame retains some of the arsenal case colors. The backstrap and triggerguard retain most of the arsenal blue finish. Seven notches carved in the left grip and the grips display some nicks and dings. The bore is bright and shiny. Nice early SA that went back to Springfield arsenal and then converted to a Artillery revolver.
