A rare U.S. Model 1870 Revenue Marine Service Officer's Sword, dating to the post-Civil War era. Serving under the Department of the Treasury, this elite maritime agency was a predecessor to the modern U.S. Coast Guard. Due to the fact of the limited size of the officer corps during the 1870s, surviving examples of this specific regulation pattern are scarce. 29" spear point blade with military motifs etched into the blade and "U.S.R.M.". Leather scabbard with brass bands. Engraved with Naval Anchor and snake, and shield with scales. Brass guard with USMR and Eagle embossed on the brass guard. Shagreen and brass wire wrapped handle. Overall this is excellent.
