30.5" spear point blade, with center fuller, Offered here is an extraordinary example of a Pre-Civil War General & Staff Officers Presentation Sword, dated 1839. This custom-commissioned was presented by the Pulaski Guards; a historic, elite volunteer militia company named in honor of Revolutionary War hero General Casimir Pulaski, to a high-ranking officer as a testament to merit, leadership, and mutual esteem. In June 1839, the Pulaski Guards officially transferred to the 3rd Regiment, 3rd Brigade of the Massachusetts Militia under the command of Captain Seriah Stevens. The company achieved renown for its discipline and fancy uniforms, inspiring a member writing as Zaleucus to compose the "Stevens Quickstep," which debuted at Dorchester Heights on August 8, 1839. The blade is etched with panels of military panoply of arms and the eagle with "E Pluribus Unum". The blade is in excellent condition with nearly all the bright finish. The crossguard and cupped hilt are in excellent condition retaining nearly all of the gilt finish. The handle is is grooved and tapered with most of its finish. The brass gilt scabbard with engraved Eagle and scrolls. Retains nearly all of the gilt finish. The inscription is in the middle of the scabbard and reads: "Presented to Capt Seriah Stevens By the Pulaski Guards Boston Oct 271839".
