50-70 caliber, 40" barrel, NSN. The U.S. Model 1866 Second Allin Springfield Trapdoor is the second version of the Allin design to convert trapdoor breech loading mechanisms. Marked with the the "Eagle" proof on the left side near the breech. The Breech block marked "1866" with Eagle and the lockplate is marked wtih "Eagle U.S." over "Springfield" and dated "1863 " in the rear of the lockplate. Three barrel bands, walnut stock with two leaf rear barrel sights. Overall excellent with the barrel and receiver retaining the arsenal burnish bright. The breech block and top strap retain the arsenal black finish just lightly fading. The stock has a excellent cartouche on the right side. The stock retains that nice opened-grained look. The bore is very good. A great example of a Second Allin Springfrield Trapdoor.
