54 caliber, 8.5 round barrel with swivel ramrod, NSN. The U.S. Model 1842 M. Aston percussion pistol is a very important pistol in the evolution of US military history. This smooth bore pistol represents the distinction of being the first military pistol that used the percussion ignition sytem while also being the first to use interchangeable parts. The lockplate marked "H.Aston, Middn Conn 1847". Brass furniture with a walnut stock. All metal has a nice even mint look. The markings are very sharp and crisp. The brass furniture has a nice gilt patina. The stock is mint looking with two mint cartouches "WAT" and "SM". A nice inspector's initial in the rear of the lock area on the other side behind the cartouches "M" is the sub inspector mark for Stillman Moore. Overall this is an outstanding US Martial marked Model 1842 Aston with just one dent on the right side of the stock.
