.69 caliber, 42" barrel length, NSN. The U.S. Model 1842 Springfield Percussion Musket holds a monumental place in American ordnance history as the first standard-issue infantry longarm produced with a percussion lock at the national arsenals. Manufactured primarily between 1844 and 1855 at both the Springfield and Harpers Ferry armories, it marks a critical technological milestone. Marked at the breech on the left side with "V P Eagle" and dated "1853" on the tang. Lockplate dated "1853" and "Springfield Eagle" and "U.S.". Walnut stock with three barrel bands. The metal has nice even gray look with slight patina blending in. The lock is crisp and sharp. The stock is nice and dark with a visible cartouche. Overall very good example.
