32" curved blade, Marked "U.S." over "P" "LS N.Starr". Offered here is an incredibly rare US Contract Cavalry Saber, manufactured during the height of the War of 1812 by America's premier early sword maker, Nathan Starr. This sword represents one of the earliest official government contracted cavalry swords produced on American soil. Iron guard with iron backstrap and pommel.  Grooved wood handle, metal scabbard. This sword has nice even look with dark patina brown on the blade, guard and scabbard.  The markings are sharp and crisp.   Overall an excellent example of this is a rare sword.
