The U.S. Model 1798 Cavalry Saber by N. Starr holds a distinct place in U.S. and U.S. military history.  Being the first edged weapon produced under a military contract following the Revolutionary War.  With only 2,000 produced and very rarely do they come to market, making this a desirable early American sword. 33" spear point blade, with fuller near the false edge running parallel. Marked near the guard parallel with the false edge "N. Starr & Co.".  Iron "D" guard with Iron backstrap and pommel. On the reverse side Marked "U.S. 1799".  The blade has nice dark patina with some staining. Forging lines are visible. The markings are legible but faint. The wood handle has some nicks and dings.  A small crack near the guard at the bottom.  Overall this a very good example of this rare sword.
