25.5" curved blade with a fuller parallel to the false edge. U.S. Model 1826 Naval Cutlass under federal contract by the legendary master armorer Nathan Starr of Middletown, Connecticut. Executed in March 1826, this contract called for exactly 2,000 cutlasses to fully outfit the sailing ships of the expanding U.S. Navy. Due to the extreme and highly corrosive environments of life at sea combined with standard naval activities, these swords had a low survival rate. The blade has been cleaned long ago, the markings are weak and hardly visible.  The blade is nice.  The guardhas nice dark patina.  The grooved handle is dark.  Overall very good.
