33" curved blade, With the original metal scabbard. An example of early American Republic contract weaponry is the U.S. Model 1812/1813 Cavalry Saber. Under contract of early sword maker, Nathan Starr of Middletown, Connecticut. Prompted by the outbreak of the War of 1812 against Great Britain, the U.S. Government ordered thousands of these robust sabers to fully equip federal light dragoons and state mounted volunteer militias. Heavily influenced by the legendary British Pattern 1796 light cavalry sword, Starr's 1812/1813 design represents a critical transition in American sword manufacturing moving away from fragile militia variations toward a standardized, efficient frontline weapon. Curved blade with no fuller and comes to a clip point blade. Iron guard with grooved wood handle and iron backstrap. The blade is marked near the ricasso in three lines"P" over "HHP" over "N. Starr". The blade has some brown staining with sharp and crisp markings. The scabbard and the handle have nice even look dark brown. Overall excellent.
