.69 caliber, 44.5" barrel length, NSN The U.S. Marked Model 1795 Type III Harpers Ferry flintlock rifle was one the first standard issued military rifles in the early 19th century used mostly in the War of 1812. The design loosely based on the French Charleville used heavily during the American Revolutionary War. This rifle is marked on the lockplate "Harpers Ferry" and dated "1812". Three barrel bands with walnut stock. The stock has a concave cheekpiece typical of the Model 1812 but without a doubt this is a Type III 1795. The barrel marked near the breech on the left side "596 CP", "US" in an oval and a "P" in a circle. The stock is also marked "569 CP". This musket is all original and more importantly in original flint. All metal has a nice even brown patina. Overall excellent for a earlier U.S. military rifle.
