Dating to the Renaissance fencing era, this Continental swept-hilt rapier showcases an intersection of deadly utility and aristocratic fashion. Emerging around 1610 during the transition into the early Baroque period, this style of sword was the weapon of choice for the European gentry, officers, and duelist. Its intricate design and multi-ringed hilt structure was engineered to provide maximal hand protection while showcasing the skills of European blacksmithing. 40.5" blade, with a 8.5" center fuller. The hilt well forged with recurved quillon, fluted center section and finely pierced sprung in plate. The long double edged blade with central fuller deeply stamped with invocation to Maria mother of Christ. Waisted wood grip round with twisted steel wire. Large globose pommel. Overall condition is good. Rapier is possibly homogenous.
