An authentic 16th to early 17th-century Continental Burgonet, representing the signature open-faced helmet of the Renaissance and early modern battlefields. Developed as the successor to the medieval sallet, the burgonet was highly favored across Western Europe by light cavalrymen, cuirassiers, and infantry officer ranks for providing a superb balance of robust cranial defense, maximum visibility, and excellent ventilation. Of good weight and construction with one piece skull and nicely roped comb. The sharply pointed brim with roped border and embossed ridge appears to be integral with the skull.  Both earflaps appear to be original to the helmet. A fine period example in good condition.
